PETA is setting up shop in Australia

Well I have been talking about it, ranting about it, posting to various lists I am on about it and now it is getting closer to reality . . .

PETA is going to set up an office in Australia and we need THAT like the proverbial hole in the head.

If purebred dog breeders and owners thought the legislation our law makers are putting through was crazy, outrageous, ridiculous and any other choice words you may choose to describe them, PETA setting up in Australia will only escalate all this faster then you can turn around and scratch your head wondering what the hell happened!

The purebred dog owner and breeder has sat on its backside far too long.

Act and act NOW!

Act before it is truly too late!!!

Following is an article from NSW Animals liberation newsletter and sourced from Farm On Line, regarding PETA coming down under.

PETA SETTING UP IN AUSTRALIA
By Marius Cuming, national sheep and wool writer, www.farmonline.com.au

March 1 - Animal extremist group, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is setting up shop in Australia.

Animal Liberation NSW disclosed to Rural Press this week that PETA was planning to move into Australia to set up an office.

It is understood the radical organisation that opposes the use of animals for farming, food or entertainment has also registered as a charity in Australia.

The development is yet another sign of the increasing move towards animal rights movements in Australia and comes after high profile PETA vice president, Dan Matthews, visited Australia a fortnight ago.

Organisations such as the RSPCA and the Australian Veterinary Association have also shown a move towards protecting animal rights rather than animal welfare in recent times.

Others such as Animal Liberation, Voiceless and Animals Australia continue a strong mainstream media presence.

"While we tolerate the use of animals in agriculture, PETA is very much against the use of animals for anything," Animal Liberation NSW representative Mark Pearson said

"The setting up of a PETA office in Australia represents a new phase of the animal rights movement in Australia."

PETA now have offices in India and Russia after campaigns against the leather and fur trades in those countries.

When contacted this week by Rural Press, it neither confirmed nor denied the claim that it was setting up in Australia.

"It is too early to comment," a spokeswoman said.

However, the organisation has set up an email account, namely australia@peta.org .

Australian Wool Innovation this week stated it would not be making any comment on the matter until the move was officially confirmed by PETA.

* Have your say? Vote in today's FarmOnline poll, which asks:

'Should the Government outlaw the animal rights group, PETA, to prevent it from setting up shop in Australia?'
