Old News

Recent entries here have been old news but I thought them important enough to bring forward just to remind us all that some things are still simmering in the back ground and indeed some have began to boil.

Unwanted dogs fill the shelters and various rescue centers (at least this is what the RSPCA and AVA will have the unsuspecting public believe) and it it these very unwanted animals that are used against us, the purebred dog breeder and owner to push such ridiculous legislation through as early age de-sexing (as young as 6 weeks) and breed specific legislation (target a particular breed rather then the owner of the particular dog).

Unless the purebred dog world wakes up, the whole situation will be beyond help.

WAKE UP ALREADY!

I am not sure if I will be able to express what I want to say, very well but here goes.

De-sexing of animals IS the responsibility of the owner of that particular animal NOT the breeder of it. I already see some owners as totally irresponsible on many levels. The fact that governments keep introducing 'personal conduct/responsibility' legislation does nothing to bring these people to account. The only thing this type of legislation does is move responsibility in a different direction.

The lesson is NEVER learnt by by those who need to learn it.

If we now add to the mix the negative effects of early age de-sexing, we are talking out right willful cruelty. Cruelty we know about.

Research in America has shown that early age de-sexing has a number of problematic side effects. Dysplasia being the most serious. When a dog is de-sexed certain hormones are no longer produced. These are important in bone development and indeed maintenance. As a result of de-sexing, especially early age de-sexing, the new owner can look forward to hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia in a very young dog. The natural progression from here (and all too often encouraged by the vet), is to 'blame' the breeder or breeding.

Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) will NEVER work.

It will not work because the core of the problem with those dogs that attack lies with the owner NOT the dog or more specifically the breed of dog. Sure there is no denying that in the very early stages of development of some breeds the purpose was to 'fight' or to be a 'fighting' breed however this is no longer the case. These very same breeds have become very much loved family members with stable temperaments.

Laws, by-laws and legislation already exists to address 'problem owners' however these are not exercised to the fullest to punish the irresponsible owners. It is unclear why those who can exercise these do not do it and I do not believe anyone has ever questioned that. Perhaps it is time to do so!

The only effective way to address attacking dogs is to address the owners of these dogs through the hip pocket and some quiet time in gaol to reflect upon what they have done. I believe, rather then keep introducing new laws, which clearly WILL NOT work, the existing ones need to be exercised and refined so that they can be more readily exercised.

Just how stupid is the RSPCA and AVA anyway!

Do they really think by banning a certain breed is the answer to attacking dogs!

Puh-lease get into the real world Mr. RSPCA and Mr. AVA and Mr. Anyone Else who thinks this is the answer, and 'attack' the owners.

It's not Rocket Science to work out what will happen when a breed or breeds are banned.

The 'Problem People' will choose another breed and another and another and if all breeds are banned they will train a mutt. The idea of introducing BSL to address the motivation of these people is going to FAIL!, it doesn't take a genius to work it out and see it coming.

The lesson is NEVER learnt by by those who need to learn it.

Early age de-sexing and BSL are just two examples of very bad, negative and useless legislation which does nothing to address the problem but rather make it look like the RSPCA and AVA are doing their job. This is nothing more then a simple band aid with a very big pussy sore under it that, in reality, those that can use existing laws just do not want to use them to clean up that big pussy sore which is getting bigger and more problematic and leading to total amputation; banning breeds through BSL and killing off domestic dogs through early age de-sexing!
smile-wailful
