Confronting
The buzz word in the art world is "confronting".
I don't get that.
Actually I would love to find out when this word first began to be used to describe art.
I mean why does art have to be confronting? We have the nightly news 7 days a week to confront us on television, we have the daily newspapers to confront us with their confronting images of our decaying moral world and we have the internet, the most confronting of all, at our finger tips.
Why can't art be enjoyable, pleasurable, easy on the eye and mind?
I can not help but feel the use of the word 'confronting' is yet another way around those things that are done in the name of art which would never be so readily excused otherwise.
These images are not art, they are the physical proof of the sick mind of Bill Henson.
