Kevin Rudd Australia's 26th PM

CONGRATS to Kevin Rudd on his victory today.

The computer prediction tells us the result should come in at 88 seats for Australian Labor Party, 60 seats for the Coalition (Liberal Party and National Party) and 2 seats for Independents.

This result is almost a mirror of the 1996 Federal Election, when the Coalition came into office.

John Howard will go down in the Australian Political History as the second PM to loose his own seat next to Stanley Melbourne Bruce, Australia's 8th PM, who lost his own seat of Flinders in Victoria at the 1929 Federal Election after introducing major plans for industrial reform.

Make of that what you will, personally I think it's rather ironic. But the experts said that the harsh Industrial Reforms John Howard introduced would be his undoing and so it was. At least that would have been the major factor for the way Australian citizens voted today. Climate change and nuclear power would come in as close 2nd and 3rd factors. All three John Howard refused to acknowledge continuing to 'sell' the strong Australian economy. That may be so but I think John Howard did NOT hear the Australian people when he listened. He did not hear their pain as the mortgage payments kept going up, petrol prices kept going up and of course the food bills going up.

John Howard must think Australian people forget but they do not. He went into office promising under the Coalition Government there would be no GST. What did he do as soon as he went into office? Slap us all with GST which has resulted in a huge rise in the cost food and essential items.

Politician seem to get too cocky for their own good and forget that the people will silently shout at the polling booth on Federal Election day.
