Something Odd On My Machine

A little while ago something odd happened on my machine after I turned it on.

Usually it just boots up and off I go with what ever I am going to do but this time it asked me to insert my Windows disk.

Did that.

It asked me to insert the Service Pack 2 disk.

Didn't do that, 'cause I downloaded it from the net.

I worked out that I needed to tell my machine to boot from Windows not from Windows Disk.

That's a bit of a pain 'cause I have to sit and wait for that screen to come up as it's booting to Arrow Up and press Enter.

Almost coming to terms with that!

Next 'something odd' was the tabs have gone from the Display Properties option. You know the one that has the tabs; Themes, Desktop, Screen Saver, Appearance and Settings.

OK, this one time I had need to change the Resolution so that I could view the entire Pop Up Page and I did that by clicking approximately where the tabs should have been and BINGO it came up and I made the change. However, the biggy was that I could not do the same to change it back. No matter what I did, how many times I clicked where the tabs should have been I could not strike it lucky again.

Panic, would be a very mild way to describe how I felt.

Frustration and anger set in as I squinted at my monitor for about a week.

Well that was it. I could not stand it any more so wrote my Personal Tech Guy in Texas and sent a screen shot of what I had or more to the point what I didn't have . . . Those darn tabs that I needed!

He wrote back with a suggestion which I tried but sadly it did not work.

I wrote back and included another screen shot.

He must have known I was panicking.

He called and talked me through a number of option and then found the solution which I want to share with anyone else who looses those tabs.

Go to Resort Missing Tabs To the Display Properties dialogue, scroll down to Attachments and click on showalldisplaytabs-xp.vbs

Follow the prompts and you are done.

If you get stuck you may want to contact my Personal Tech Guy.

Check out his Contact Page.
