The Amazing Human Body Exhibition
Saturday saw Charmine and I on the train into Melbourne then on a tram to the Melbourne Docklands to see The Amazing Human Body Exhibition. We had been planning this trip for some months and actually missed the first exhibition because we just couldn't find time off at the same time as each other.
Anyway, all that aside, the exhibition was really quite amazing and confronting.
The entire exhibition consisted of over 400 anatomical displays and 18 whole bodies. The exhibition also included transparent vertical and horizontal slices of an entire human body. It was quite an odd feeling viewing the horizontal sliced body; much of it reminded me of steaks you would see in a butcher shop.
The display only had one whole female body on display and only one anatomical female display, the female pelvis.
I did expect the exhibits to be more red in colour but of course the process used to preserve the bodies is a technique called Plastination where the body fluids are replaced by special plastics hence why the red colour was missing leaving the bodies a more orange/yellow in colour.
For a small fee of just $2.00 a recorder type device was available into which an ear phone was plugged in. As Charmine and I walked around we could enter the number which was displayed on certain exhibits and hear what it was about.Something that was heard repeatedly in these recordings was reference to the lungs which belonged to smokers especially to those exhibits which showed the lungs quite clearly.
Y'all smokers wanna give the smokes up right now! See the lungs on the right? That's what yours look like in this image and the ones on the left are those of a non smoker.
I would say to anyone who wants to see this exhibition to go. It is well done and quite informative and very reasonably priced at $23.00 per adult and $15.00 per child between the ages of 7 and 14 which must be accompanied by an adult. Concession price is $19.00 for Aged/Pensioners/Seniors Card/Student ID holders. Groups prices are also available and need to be organised by telephoning 03 96852477 .
Enjoy :o)
