Self Regulation
What does that mean?
It means many different things to many different people and is based on each individuals moral base and values base. These two based give each of us the ability to know the differece between right and wrong. If an individual has a good sound moral base and values base then that individual will not need any laws, legislations, rules or regulations to do the right thing.
The purebred dog world, in general, has shown very poor self regulation. This is now showing up in all the attacks that are made upon the purebred dog world.
Here is a small check list:
- Do you 'seletively' disclose all information relating to the litter of puppies you have for sale?
- Do you 'selectively' disclose all the information about the Stud Dog you offer for public stud?
- Do you have hip evaluations done before you breed a litter of puppies?
- Do you require that the Stud Dog you use has his hips evaluated?
- Do you give 'selective' answers about your bloodlines?
There are many more which will make you think about how you conduct yourself and what message you send out there on behalf of the purebred dog community. Mr. and Mrs. Public see the purebred dog world as one, that is the reason why each and every one of us MUST show exceptional self regulation. Self regulation MUST never take second place to greed, self vested interest or any other selfish motives that rear their ugly heads to temp us.
The purebred dog world has seen a slow yet powerful attack which started some 20 years ago with the subject of tail docking. It has moved to 'dangerous dog' type legilsation to breed specific legislation (BSL) to early age de-sexing (before puppies go to new homes). America has probably been hit the hardest and it has the Bill of Rights! God only knows what will happen in Australia.
It is important that not only does the purebred dog world need to show an excellent ability to self regulate, it must educate, it must fight legisation which takes away its rights to own and breed the dog breed of choice but, the all important BUT, the purebred dog world MUST unite.
America has AKC as its registry body.
America has the National Animal Interest Alliance.

Australia has the ANKC with its State regisrty bodies.
Australia has the Australian Purebred canine federation Inc.
Uniting the WHOLE of the purebred community will show two very important things to the law makers;
- Numeric Power
- Monetary Power
