Ally at the Tracking Trial
What a long day!
Only four hours sleep and I have just returned home from Inverleigh where the Tracking Trial was held. There were three other Weimaraners entered but Australian Champion Britfeld Unforgetable E.T. (yes only one "T") "Ally" was the only to be successful.
Ally officially has her Tracking Qualifying Certificate. It's all serious stuff from here on in. In three weeks she will be taking a shot at Track 1. This is an 800 mt track by a known person with a minimum of two turns and one article. Ally would need to complete Track 1 and Track 2 in order to gain her T.D. (Tracking Dog) title.
It was just the best day for tracking both for dog, handler and track layer. Sun was out, the temperature reached 19c with a little wind. Richard, a long time dear friend has helped get Ally to this point through training and handling and he was the handler today. I took cold roast chicken and fresh bread rolls for lunch, some creamy sweet biscuits, hot water, tea, coffee, sugar and milk (there was no catering today at the base). I also cut up oranges and took some lollies. Oh yeah and some pecans and walnuts and dry figs and dates.
Ally was the very first dog out this morning at 0730.
I walked the track, picking up the flags as I went past them and hid behind a rock pile, covered with a bush green tarp. It seemed I no soon got comfortable, as comfortable as one can be on rocks, and Ally was jumping all over me. She found me of course and the judge said she worked beautifully. She sorted out the corner (the left turn I took) like a pro :o)
Guess that's it for today. I am way tired and heading to bed.
